What is a quinceañera save the date?
A save the date is a simple announcement, usually a photo card, that tells family and friends the date of the quinceañera long before formal invitations go out. It does one job: get the date on everyone's calendar early, especially for the madrinas, padrinos, and out-of-town family who need months of notice to plan travel.
It is not the invitation. The invitation comes later with the venue, the time, the dress code, and the RSVP. The save the date is shorter, warmer, and photo-first: her face, her name, the date, and "details to follow."
For most families it is also the celebrant's first time in front of a professional camera, which is exactly why we treat it as more than a card. A short, relaxed session months before the event lets her practice being photographed before the big formal shoots, so by the time the gown goes on she already knows how to move.
When to take the photos and when to send it
- Take the photos 10 to 14 months before the event. A save the date session works even a full year out. Earlier is better than later: the whole point is lead time.
- Send the save the date 8 to 12 months out. Out-of-town family books flights and requests time off; padrinos plan their commitments around it.
- Invitations follow at 2 to 3 months out, once the venue, timeline, and guest list are final.

The save the date photoshoot: what it is and what to wear
A save the date photoshoot is a short, casual portrait session built for exactly this card. Ours is a 45-minute session for $150, and the $150 is credited toward your event package when you book us for the big day. It is also included in every one of our full packages.
The look is the part families get wrong most often, so here is the rule we give every client:
- Casual and coordinated, not the gown. The formal gown is saved for the pre-shoot closer to the event. The save the date is jeans and boots, a sundress, a themed casual look: something that feels like her at fifteen.
- Wrinkle-free and well fitted. Simple clothes photograph beautifully when they are pressed and fit right.
- Bring one prop that says the date. A letterboard, a chalkboard, balloons, or the newspaper (more on that below).

Save the date ideas families love
The best save the dates have one clear idea. These are the ones that consistently turn out gorgeous:
- The save the date newspaper. The biggest trend of the last two years: a custom front page with her photos and headlines announcing the date. She holds it, reads it, laughs behind it. - The date in her hands. A letterboard, balloons with the numbers, or a chalkboard with the date written large. Simple and timeless.
- Western and charro looks. Boots, hats, a ranch fence, the family truck. Deeply personal for many DFW families and full of character on camera.

What to write on it: wording that works
Keep it short. The card is the photo; the words just deliver the fact. The classic structure is:
- Save the Date
- Her name, e.g. "Isabella's Quinceañera"
- The date, written out: "Saturday, June 12, 2027"
- The city: "Dallas, Texas"
- "Formal invitation to follow"
Many DFW families print bilingual cards, and it always lands well with the grandparents: "Save the Date" on one line, "Reserva la fecha" beneath it, or a full Spanish back side. If your card carries a hashtag, this is the place it debuts.
How to share it
Printed cards are lovely for the closest family, but most save the dates now travel by phone: the photo card sent through WhatsApp, posted to Facebook, or attached to a group text.
